Easy mince pies

Mince pies : A traditional British treat. It is customary to eat one mince pie everyday from Christmas to the Twelfth Night (6th Jan) for good luck. Enjoy it hot or cold with ice cream. On Christmas eve; leave some pies for Santa and carrot for the reindeer!

Preparation time: 50 minutes

Makes: 15 to 18 pies


350 gm all purpose flour

225 gm butter, diced

250 gm minced meat

100 gm caster sugar

1 egg, beaten

Icing sugar; for dusting


Mix the all purpose flour, butter, caster sugar and a pinch of salt and knead it into dough with smooth consistency.

Preheat oven to 200° C.

Press walnut sized balls in the patty tin and fill them with the minced meat.

Take smaller balls of dough, pat it between your hands, and top the pies; gently pressing the outer edges.

Brush the top of the pies with beaten egg.

Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.

Shift it to a wire rack to cool down, then dust it with the icing sugar before serving.
