Rava Idli with Sambar

People of India can never get over food! After all, there’s so much to eat wherever you go. Rava Idli with Sambar is a healthy South Indian dish which should be a “have to have” on your list when you’re on your Healthy Food mission.

Ingredients for Idli

1/2 cup Yogurt/Curd
1 pinch Baking Soda
3 Tbsp Water
1 cup Rava
3 spoons Ghee
Salt as needed

Preparation for Idli

Heat pan, add ghee and roast the Rava. Then keep the roasted rava aside. Now, add curd, water and salt to it and blend the mixture well. Keep it aside for 30 minutes.
Heat water in the steamer and grease the idli moulds. Take your mixture and water if it has become too thick, also add baking soda to it. Put the mixture into the moulds and steam the idlis for 15-20 minutes. Rava Idli is ready!

Ingredients for Sambar

1/2 Cup Toor daal
1 Small Tomato chopped
1 Sliced in half Green chilli
1/2 Cup Tamarind extract (Extracted out of a small lemon sized tamarind)
1 Tbsp Chilli powder
1 Tbsp Coriander powder
1/8 Tbsp Turmeric powder
1 Small Onion chopped
Salt as needed
1 Tbsp Oil
1/2 Tbsp Mustard seeds
A sprig of Curry leaves
A pinch of Asafoetida(Hing)

Preparation for Sambar

Heat 1 Tbsp of oil in a pressure cooker and add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Then add onions and green chillies, saute until translucent. Add tomatoes along with chilli powder, coriander powder and salt. Next step is to add 1/2 cup of toor daal with 2 cups of water to it. Close the cooker and let it cook for like 2 whistles. Then after add tamarind extract, hing and let it boil for 10 minutes. also there are few organic masala’s available in market which you can use for additional taste.

Sambar is ready!
