Tangy Puran Poli – A Fusion Recipe

This recipe is going to be a treat for all those who have sweet tooth. Also, for all those who are die-hard Puran Poli fan!

Time for some fusion experiments in kitchen. This recipe has been passed on by Chef Nilesh Limaye and it is for sure going to change the way you look at Puran Poli from now on.


2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
1 Cup Chana Dal
1 Cup Jaggery
1/2 Teaspoon Cardamom Powder
1 Teaspoon Fennel powder
1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg powder
1/4 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
1 Cup Orange Juice
1 Scoop of Vanila Icecream
1/2 Cup of Orange/Chocolate Sauce
Salt as needed
Ghee as needed


At first you need to make your puran (the filling) for your puranpoli. Make it by mixing Chana Dal, Jaggery, Cardamom powder, fennel powder, nutmeg powder and ghee. Then make your whole wheat flour dough adding some ghee, salt and turmeric powder to it. Once done, fill in the puran to the dough and cook on your pan by adding a little ghee.

Now, keep the Puran aside and in that same pan, take some orange juice and boil it, make it little concentrated. Pour this juice over Puran Poli, and add a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream on it. Pour some Orange/Chocolate sauce on it and enjoy your Tangy Puran Poli!
